Hyderabad: The Tribal Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) has demanded the Telangana government to provide reservations according to their population ratio as per the 2011 census. After submitting a memorandum to the State Governor E S L Narasimhan here on Tuesday, the TPJAC leaders said that the tribal population had been 6.6 percent when the state was undivided and reservations were implemented in the same ratio.

But after division of the state, according to 2011 census, the tribal population in Telangana is 9.34 percent. Chief Minister KCR conducted a prestigious family survey in 2014 and the government declared tribal population is 9.91 percent. The same has been authenticated in state budget 2015-16 with the allocation of 9.61 per cent funds for the sub plan. But when it comes to education, employment and promotions, the increased percentage of reservations are not implemented.

This has resulted in tribal people being deprived of their due share. And, they had to forgo hundreds of medical seats in the EAMCET conducted during the last two years. Government has announced in the assembly that 1.07 lakh jobs would be filled in the state. Singareni Collieries have already given notification in February 2015 for 5,000 jobs.

The Chief Minister signed for filling of 15,000 vacancies. Efforts are afoot by the Telangana State Public Service Commission to release notifications. The 6.6 per cent which was in undivided state is replicated in every notification being issued after division of state also.

As the Telangana government has been promising thousands of promotions also, and not making reservation as per the population ratio would deprive them their rightful due. It asked the Governor to take necessary steps to ensure the tribals get their share in the State.
