Hyderabad: About 19,000 police personnel of both Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissonerates, along with special armed battalions, are all set to guard the city during the 69thIndependence Day celebrations in the city on Saturday. The police beefed up security on the outskirts of the city in order to curb the entry of anti-social elements during the celebrations.

With high alert being in place, public places, government establishments and heritage structures including Charminar and Mecca Masjid, along with other sensitive areas in the twin cities are under high security cover.As Indian Mujahideen co-founder Mohammed Ahmed Sidibappa alias Yasin Bhatkal (34),has been lodged at the Cherlapally Central Prison, the Cyberabad police tightened the security in the area.

Receiving a tip-off that Bhatkal has been planning to escape from the prison with the help of his Damascus friends, teams of OCTOPUS (Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations) are also brought in to thwart any such attempt by Bhatkal. The Cyberabad police increased the security in and around the IT corridor in Madhapur and Gachibowli in order to avert untoward incidents.

Vehicle checking is being done at several places in all police station limits in Cyberabad commissonerate.As the Independence Day celebrations are scheduled to be performed at Golkonda fort, city police commissioner M Mahender Reddy on Thursday advised the public not to carry hand bags, briefcases, cameras, carriers or containers while proceeding to the fort.
