Hyderabad: Reiterating their demand to not to alter the design of Pranahita-Chevella project, the Congress party leaders, led by TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, held dharna programme at Pulusu Mamidi, Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district on Wednesday. They held that any change would do injustice to the entire district of Ranga Reddy, which was supposed to be the major beneficiary of the original design.

Speaking during the protest, TPCC chief said that the YSR government had taken up the project after scientific study, which guaranteed drinking water not only to Ranga Reddy district but also to Hyderabad city. After getting all kinds of sanctions from both State and Centre, the project was taken up and Rs 900 crore were already spent on different works.

Describing the decision of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s uncalled for, TPCC chief recalled KCR’s earlier stance, who had stressed the need for declaring the same as national project before coming to power. “It is ironical that the same leader who was supporting the project’s nationalisation is now bent upon changing its design,” he said.
