Hyderabad: The political heat in Telangana is picking up with speculations that the notification for the Warangal bye-election would be announced anytime now. While the major parties are still mulling over the prospective candidates, Balladeer Gaddar appears to be emerging as a common candidate for all the ten left parties.

According to Telangana CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, the left parties are trying to convince Gaddar to take the plunge into the fray and contest the Warangal Lok Sabha seat. Chada said that so far Gaddar had neither accepted nor rejected the proposal.

But given the background and popularity of Gaddar and the key role he played in the separate Telangana movement, the left parties are of strong opinion that he would be the best choice. Chada said that the left parties had also approached Political JAC co-chairman Mallepally Lakshmaiah but he refused to contest.

He said the left parties are of the strong opinion that Gaddar would be the best choice particularly since the ruling TRS was following the footsteps of the then Nizam and implementing anti-people policies. Only a popular leader like Gaddar can give a real fight to the ruling party in the bye-election, he added.

Balladeer Gaddar had jumped into active politics and floated Telangana Praja Front claiming that separate Telangana state could not be achieved by TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao. He was of the firm opinion that separate state would be possible only through building a powerful movement to force the Centre into introducing a bill in Parliament.

Gaddar had said that he would like to call his front a "political force" and not a "political party". The revolutionary singer said that the objective of the front was to consolidate all JACs of different organisations and fight against the Centre until it introduced a bill in Parliament for a separate state. He was supported by various other organisations.

However, it remains to be seen whether other parties like Congress will support his candidature in the Warangal Lok Sabha bye-election or not. TPCC president, N Uttam Kumar Reddy parried a direct reply. He told The Hans India that the party was yet to take a decision on whether to field a candidate or support a united candidate.

“We are in consultation with leaders from Warangal district and will then consult the high command. The final decision will be that of the high command,” he said. Telangana TDP President L Ramana ruled out the possibility of supporting left-sponsored candidate. He said contesting the election will be futile exercise for the left parties.

He said the TDP would fight the election in alliance with BJP. The question of backing any other party in the election does not arise.TJAC chairman Prof Kodandaram said that his organisation has nothing to do with election process.
The decision to support a political outfit during statehood movement was a different issue. Then decisions were taken to reflect sentiments of people. Now TJAC is only concerned about rebuilding of Telangana and not the election process.
