Hyderabad: Is Chukka Ramaiah not the ‘best’ teacher? Chukka Ramaiah aka IIT Ramaiah has been sending thousands of students to the national institutes like IITs, IIITs and other centrally-funded institutions. Over three decades, he has been training the students for IIT-JEE and 90 percent of the students who are trained under him bag seats in the IITs.

He was also instrumental in setting up the IIT in Hyderabad. In spite of producing thousands of successful students every year, the successive governments in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and now the Telangana failed to recognise the services Chukka Ramaiah rendered to society.

Currently, the State government announces State awards for teachers by asking the teachers to file their applications. This is being staunchly opposed by the teacher community. They have been demanding that the State should present awards in recognition to the services. “It is not a post to which the teachers apply.

The awards are something that has to be given in recognition to services rendered by them to students, colleagues and community,” says Ramaiah. According to Ramaiah, he never applied for any award nor going to apply. “I am not happy with procedure being followed. It should be changed,” he says.

It’s not just the case with Ramaiah alone; several teachers’ services went unnoticed by the earlier governments and the present TRS government. Telangana State Federation of Universities Teachers’ Association, President Prof Battu Satyanarayana said, “No teacher will come forward to apply for the award.

It is the universities which have to recognise the services of the teachers,” he said. However, Prof M Kodandaram said over the years the same procedure is being followed for granting of awards. Those who have merit will get awards. “I have not applied for the award,” he added.
