Hyderabad: About 20 members of the Telangana Lorry Owners Association on Friday met Director General of Police I Anurag Sharma at his office and requested him to solve the problems they were facing from the police personnel across the State.

They informed the DGP that the Traffic and Law & Order police were stopping the lorries in the name of checking and harassing them. They alleged that the police were booking cases against the lorry drivers during accidents even if the fault was not of lorry drivers.

When the members informed the DGP that the traffic police were collecting money illegally from the lorry drivers, DGP Anurag Sharma asked them to report such issues immediately to senior police officers or lodge a complaint at the nearest police station.

They complained that the traffic police were penalising them even if the vehicle was parked on service road and free zones and mostly at old city areas in Hyderabad. The DGP assured the association members that he would ensure installation of sign boards in three languages at all the entry points of Hyderabad and also at major junctions in the city.

He said that he would direct the police officers to grant station bail to the drivers if caught under sections 337, 338 and 304 of IPC. The DGP also said that inspections would be done to eliminate the illegal collection of money from the lorry drivers in the state.
