Hyderabad: The ambitious digital literacy programme to be introduced in the schools by the Telangana government hit a roadblock with several corporates which talk of social responsibility have come up with new conditions to be partners in this venture.

The corporates have told the government that the latter should purchase the products developed by them in order to avail their services in implementing the programme. The products they want the government schools to purchase range from computers, laptops, projectors, printers, so on and so forth.

The new condition has come as a shocker for the officials of the Education department who thought the corporates were coming forward to provide free digital literacy services and the state could implement the programme as part of the Digital India programme.

As part of the digital literacy programme, the state government had planned to provide free computer education to the students and teachers in the government schools.

It had selected 10 schools in each district in the state for the programme. The officials have visited the expo of the electronic gadgets organised by the corporates to select the equipment; but the government feels that it may not be in a position to spend huge amounts to purchase the equipment from the corporates at this time.

The officials say that they have, however, sent the proposal to the government and a final decision would be taken after consulting the Chief Minister.
