Following the selection of Hyderabad as smart city, the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) has sanctioned 145 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC) to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for expanding health services to the citizens of Hyderabad, according to GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar.
NUHM sanctions Rs 64 crore for upgrading health centres
Hyderabad: Following the selection of Hyderabad as smart city, the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) has sanctioned 145 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC) to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for expanding health services to the citizens of Hyderabad, according to GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar.
NUHM has released Rs 23.23 crore for the year 2014-15 for maintenance of health centres and sanctioned Rs 64.54 crore for the year 2015-16.
As the mobile health services were already available in the rural areas, the GHMC is planning to provide six mobile health vans to the citizens.
A survey is being planned to get the opinion from the citizens on performance of UPHCs to provide better medical services and there is a proposal to extend the health services up to 8 pm, according to GHMC press release.
It has further stated that City Health Society was planning to bring the basic facilities and various health departments under one umbrella for better services. Latest technology would also be used to enhance the function of UPHCs by installing CCTV cameras, introducing bio-metric system for attendance of doctors and staff, and recording the data of patient’s diseases.
Steps would be taken to get transparency and accountability the health services provided by the GHMC, Health department, DMHO and Malaria departments. There are 1,149 Asha workers and 699 ANM in GHMC area who would be provided with Tabs to get data health, diseases, local conditions, patients details so that the health services could be enhanced accordingly.
There is a proposal on pilot basis to give some of the health centres to the private agencies to provide quality health services to the public, it quoted.
