Hyderabad: In a bid to step up security for the girl students studying in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and Model Schools in the State, the Telangana government has decided to install ClosedCircuit TVs and siren system.

This decision was taken during a review meeting on Telangana Residential Educational Institutions Society (TREIS), KGBVs and Model Schools chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari with school education department officials at state Secretariat here on Monday.

Later addressing the media, Kadiyam said that the government sanctioned Rs 239 crore towards development works of TRWEIS, KVBVs and Model Schools. He further said the government has decided to install CCTVs, siren system and RO plants in the schools and hostels.

Kadiyam said that the additional classrooms and toilets would come up for TRWEIS schools and accordingly Rs 89 crore was sanctioned to com- plete the works. He mentioned that 391 KGBVs houses about 71,560 girl students and about 85,000 students are in 182 Model Schools. “The Model Schools and hostels lack com- pound walls.

Even some KGBVs have compound walls and some do not. We have decided to construct compound walls to all schools and hostels.Besides these, we will install biometric system, construct kitchen sheds and provide roads for the Model Schools,” he added.

The Education Minister stated that Rs 50 crore for KGBVs and Rs 100 crore for Model Schools was sanctioned to complete the developmental works by March 31, 2016. “These schools will be used for implementing KG to PG free education programme,” he said.
