Steps being taken to strengthen consumer redressal system: Civil Supplies Commissioner Dr Rajat Kumar

Hyderabad: Telangana State Civil Supplies Commissioner Dr Rajat Kumar said that the main focus of his department was to protect the rights of the consumers and to empower them.

Various measures are being taken to strengthen the consumer redressal mechanism and encourage participation of consumer voluntary organisations in the State, he said.

In this context, a new Consumer Helpline (1800-425-00333) is established for the consumers of Telangana State. Consumers can make complaints and seek advice, guidance and information relating to all departments in the State, on any working day between 10.30 am and 5 pm in three languages: Telugu, Hindi and English.

The Helpline service will be provided free of cost. It was developed with the assistance of Government of India and Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) using an advanced IT platform.

In future, it would serve as e-source centre at the State-level and would be networked with the National Resource Centre to develop an Alternate Consumer Dispute Redressal Mechanism, he said.

“The State government is also supporting 1,840 consumer clubs targeting students in schools and colleges. Efforts are being made to make them aware about the basic rights of consumers such as Right to Safety, Right to be Informed, Right to Seek Redressal and Right to Healthy Environment”, he added.
