Hyderabad: In order to improve its efficiency, the Drugs Control Administration of Telangana State was restructured. According to DCA Director Akun Sabharwal, one of the important steps taken to improve efficiency was the restructuring of the manufacturing regulatory set up.

In the old set-up, the DCA was divided into three wings-Sales, Manufacturing and Laboratory. The Sales and Manufacturing Wings were divided area-wise (geographically).

In the restructuring, the major division into Sales, Manufacturing and Laboratory was retained. However, the Manufacturing Wing was restructured into the following 6 verticals: Drugs (Including APIs), Cosmetics, Blood & Biologics, Vaccines, Medical Devices, Animal and Vet Products.

The orders for restructuring were issued on September 30 and Drug Inspectors were posted to these verticals as In-charges. The in-charge inspectors will undergo training and field visits to ensure that they were aware of inspection protocols and prepare SOPs for regulatory processes in their vertical.

The process of setting up physical infrastructure was underway and would take one month. In the meanwhile, the new wings would function from their respective chambers of the Drug Inspectors posted there, the DCA Director said.
