Hyderabad: It was a day of utter chaos in the State Legislative Assembly. Peeved over the manner in which members of Congress and BJP stormed into the well of the House and stalled the proceedings demanding that the government make a clear announcement on loan waiver, the government decided to suspend 32 MLAs from the House till October 9 when the Assembly would adjourn sine die.
Though the government felt that this would put an end to the ruckus the united Opposition made some quick counter moves and decided to take to the streets. The opposition members are all set to tour the districts and have also given a bandh call on October 10.
Talking to media, Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy said that the opposition would not ask the government to revoke the suspension and would take the battle to the people and expose the government.
The MLAs and MLCs of all opposition parties on Monday staged a joint dharna before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Assembly premises in protest against their suspension from the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council for stalling the proceedings on farmers' issues.
Leaders of Opposition __ K Jana Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, BJP president G Kishan Reddy and other legislators of TDP, BJP, YSRCP and Left Parties staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Assembly premises.
The legislators avoided any confrontation with the police and informed their senior police officials that they would disburse in short time.
The legislators carried placards carrying slogans against the State Government for its alleged failure to address the farmers' issues. Later, the MLAs and MLCs ended their dharna and went back to their respective Legislature Party offices in Assembly.
The legislative council also saw a repeat performance as the opposition insisted that the government make a statement and were suspended for the entire session.
As the House met for the day, Council Chairman Swamy Goud took up Question Hour. But the Congress MLCs, led by Leader of Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir, entered the House raising slogans against the State government.
They carried placards in their hands which demanded immediate loan waiver. They did not respond to the repeated pleas of the Chairman to resume their seats. The Chairman then adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
When the House re-assembled, the Congress MLCs and BJP's member N Ramchander Rao continued their protest. The Chairman then carried the motion suspending Congress and BJP MLCs for rest of the session.
Those suspended include Shabbir Ali, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, MS Prabhakar, Farooq Hussain and Akula Lalitha of Congress and Ramchander Rao of BJP.
