Hyderabad: All India Women's Workshop-Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers on Friday demanded that the Union government stop the anti-labour laws and neo-liberal policies

Speaking on the occasion, K Hemalatha, CITU national secretary slammed the Centre for adopting neo-liberal policies.

She said the government has been attacking the labour unions by claiming them as barriers for development.

Does development only mean the development of corporate sector or overall development of the nation? She questioned.

Due to government’s anti-labour laws, the share of corporate companies was increasing at a brisk pace whereas the share of wages was coming down drastically, Hemalatha said.

The CITU national secretary further stated that development should be equal across all sectors of the economy. She said that the government instead of implementing the existing labour laws has been trying to amend them.

Due to non-implementation of labour laws, the percentage on unauthorised workers has increased to 94 in the country, she added.

The meeting emphasised the need for unity of women working in the Central government departments. In the meeting, the members were urged to organise and make women participate in the trade union movement.

It felt that the public distribution system should be universalised. Women's sub-committee chairperson Usha Bonepally, Prof Haragopal,

Supreme Court advocates Shyamasundari and many others participated on the first day (Friday) of the two-day workshop.
