5000 cr siphoned off in housing scheme by previous govt

Hyderabad: The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday stated that public money to the tune of Rs 5000 crore was misapproiated in just one year under housing scheme taken up by the previous government.

Already 300 officials were suspended while some even went to jail. This type of irregularities should not take place at any cost in the new state, said, Rao and warned that government would not spare any official if found to commit irregularities.

Rao made these statements in a meeting of ten district Collectors and SPs in which his entire Cabinet, top bureaucrats and senior officials took part.

Further, he stated that government would relax existing rules that barred construction of houses in government lands within 5 km distance from mandal headquarters and towns as well as transport of sand.

Rao asked Collectors not to stop construction works citing complexity of rules or regulations, since the government was ready to make necessary modifications.

The Chief Minister pointed out 60,000 houses, at the rate of 400 per each assembly constituency would be constructed in the next one year. This figure will be enhanced in the following years.

The houses should be constructed with high quality to ensure at least two generations of a family live happily without any worries, he stressed.

KCR said the task of identification of beneficiaries has been given to local MLA (50 percent) and concerned minister (50 percent) from the district.

However, Tahasildar first and later Collector should 'super check' the beneficiary list to rule out any scope for irregularity.

Another decision taken at the meeting was to amend the rules in regard to buying of lands for implementing the scheme to distribute three acres of land to the poor.

The government has decided to amend rules. Chief Minister made it clear that all provisions hampering the scheme ought to be changed.

Expedite land acquisition for irrigation projects

On the other hand, Chandrashekar Rao expressed satisfaction at the progress of land acquisition in Adilabad, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts to facilitate construction of irrigation projects.

Lamenting about the dead slow construction of irrigation projects citing land acquisition problems, Rao emphasized on prompt payment of compensation to the affected. Besides they should be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to construct their own house, he said.

The Chief Minister called upon Collectors to closely monitor the Drinking Water Grid project in their respective districts.

He remarked that it had come to his notice that certain individuals were deliberately posing objections in laying of pipeline through their land.

Collectors should intervene and sort out such issues, he said. The Chief Minister also discussed about Mission Kakatiya, Haritha Haram,

Gram Jyothy, land regularization under GOs 58 and 59, preparations for Medaram Jatara and Krishna Pushkaralu among other key issues.
