Hyderabad: The sudden increase in demand of power from agriculture sector has resulted in the peak demand touching a new high of 6,849 MW in the state on Friday. The previous highest peak demand was 6,755 MW on March 28 this year.

The TS TRANSCO officials said that though the power generation from hydel projects was zero, the Discoms met the power demand by procuring required power from different sources and ensured satisfactory power supply to farming and all other categories of consumers including industrial and commercial establishments.

The officials said that the power utilities were prepared to meet further power demand in the coming days. At present, 30 per cent of the required power was being generated from the thermal units in the state and the remaining 70 per cent of the energy demand was met by purchasing power from Central Generation Stations and other sources.
