Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party on Tuesday decided to test the waters in the by-election to Warangal Parliamentary constituency scheduled to be held on November 21. Party sources said the party was scouting for a strong candidate outside Warangal district.

The party will announce the candidate in two or three days. Addressing the press here, party Telangana unit president P Srinivas Redy said the decision to contest the election was taken at a meeting held at party central office here on Tuesday.

The huge response to the Paramarsa Yatra of Sharmila had proved that the people still revere the former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy for his welfare schemes as people of Warangal district were the maximum beneficiaries.

“People also understand the political manipulation behind the Lok Sabha seat falling vacant and the TRS government failing to fulfil poll promises of loan waiver, securing MSP to farmers and providing houses to the weaker sections. Y S Rajasekhar Reddy built houses which run close to the number of houses built in the entire country which is the reason why he is remembered even today,” he said.

Reddy said in the 2014 elections, people were emotional and voted the TRS but with the real colours of the party coming out, it would be the YSR Congress Party that would get maximum support. The Congress would not be forgiven for its petty-minded politics in foisting cases against the party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and the TDP-BJP combine had proved its worthlessness, he said.
