K NarayanaHyderabad: Defeat of religious fundamentalism in Bihar Assembly election was a great victory for secularism in the country, said the Left parties, reacting to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) rout in the elections on Sunday. Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary K Narayana said that Bihar poll verdict was a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political arrogance.

The Sangh Parivar and fundamentalists underestimated the protest of intellectuals across the country, he added. However, Narayana expressed his displeasure over non-representation of the CPI and the CPI (M) in the Bihar State Assembly. He said that the Left parties would respect the verdict. The CPI national committee would hold a meeting in New Delhi to review the defeat for two days from November 26, Narayana added.

CPI (M) Telangana state secretary Tammineni Veerabadram said the Bihar verdict would influence the national politics and it was a sign of the downfall of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. The BJP's defeat in the recently-concluded election was a result of 16-month-long undemocratic rule, he said.

The BJP had been trying to saffronise the nation by attacking secularists, cultures and even food habits in a country with various religious diversities, he added. Tammineni further stated that the country had not progressed economically under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it was one of the main reasons for the saffron party’s defeat.

Terming Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao as 'mini Modi’, he said the Bihar verdict would even repeat in the Warangal Lok Sabha byelection. Tammineni added that the both the Prime Minister and Telangana Chief Minister had been implementing and imposing similar feudal methods.
