Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed the irrigation officials to ensure that water from the proposed projects on the Godavari was made available to farmers in the first phase by the rainy season of 2017. In an extensive review meeting on irrigation projects here on Sunday, the Chief Minister directed that along with Kaleswaram Barrage, another barrage should be completed at Kotturu, so as to provide water to the Tummidi Hatti and Devadula projects around the same time.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed the irrigation officials to ensure that water from the proposed projects on the Godavari was made available to farmers in the first phase by the rainy season of 2017. In an extensive review meeting on irrigation projects here on Sunday, the Chief Minister directed that along with Kaleswaram Barrage, another barrage should be completed at Kotturu, so as to provide water to the Tummidi Hatti and Devadula projects around the same time.

He also proposed to construct two more barrages to lift the water to reach Yellampalli. He asked the officials to take up the construction of canals, lifts, tunnels and reservoir works in order to complete the works at the earliest. For this, the Chief Minister directed the officials to come up with an action plan, and if needed to start the works by the end of this month. He said the objective of the government was to see the farmers in the State getting good yielding during both Rabi and Kharif seasons. Keeping this in mind, he asked the officials to work hard in completing the projects. The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that the contractors carry out the project works round-the-clock, in three shifts. He also asked the officials to comply with the timely payments to the contractors.

Charting out his plans, Chandrashekar Rao said that apart from the already available Mid Maneru, Lower Maneru reservoirs, officials should take up the works for reservoirs at Kaleswaram, Yellampalli, Imambad, Ananthagiri, Gandamalla, Baswapur, Gowravalli, Pamulaparthi, Mallanna Sagar and the like. He further asked to design the Rajeev Sagar and Indira Sagar Projects to meet the needs of Telangana.

However, he pointed out that officials should ensure that there should be nominal or less submergence of lands and villages while designing the barrages and reservoirs. Chandrashekar Rao said there would not be any funds crunch, as the irrigation department was going to be allocated with Rs 25,000 crore annually. The Cheif Minister gave go ahead for recruitment of 108 posts in Irrigation Chandrashekar Rao signed a file for the appointments for 108 new posts in the irrigation department. Apart from senior officials, the new posts include the ranks of chief engineers, executive engineers, assistant engineers, divisional accounts and chief accounts officers and the like.
