Hyderabad: Supreme Court Judge Justice Madan B Lokur, being critical on the delay in provision of justice, said, “Management of Judiciary is one of the foremost challenges confronting the judiciary today. Let us face the reality. Today the need of the hour is to revamp the judicial delivery system to provide affordable justice expeditiously to the poor. Unfortunately we have not been able to do much in the matter of expediting judicial delivery and by every passing day pendency in the Supreme Court and High Courts is piling up. As of today, 65,000 cases are pending with Supreme Court of India. It is time we take the help of management experts and wide talent available in the country to revamp our judicial system.”

Justice Lokur was speaking at the national conference on ‘Emerging Challenges Before Indian Judiciary’ at Pragati Resorts in Pragati Biodiversity Park on Sunday. He proposed to the government to construct Judges’ quarters and another building for health club, leisure amenities and a guest house. Justice RC Lahoti, former CJI, too was present at the event. “When I was in Supreme Court in 2001 and even today, the challenges before Indian judiciary remain the same,” he said.

Lahoti stressed the need for integration of IT and judiciary for modernisation of judicial system and to create a paperless era. He expressed his disappointment over the decline in quality of judicial appointments and access of judicial activism. He called upon the Telangana government to develop a judicial system that will become a role model for other States by making provisions for good buildings and facilities with adequate manpower.
