Justice MS Ramachandra Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad set aside selections made to Ph.D scholars at the Kakatiya University . The judge directed the authorities to effect admissions afresh in accordance with law.

The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Gajella Mallesh and another questioning the action of the Kakatiya University in amending Rules and Regulations in respect of admission to Ph.D Programmes subsequent to notification dated 27.02.2013 as illegal, arbitrary, discriminatory, ultra vires, violative of principles of natural justice .

The petitioners successfully canvassed for declaring the Ph.D admission results dated declared in May 2015 as nonest in the eye of law. According to the petitioners though the selection process was kick started by a notification in 2013, and a entrance examination was also held, later the University changed the pattern and declared that candidates who passed SLET and NET would be given 20 marks. The alteration of the criteria and selection process midway was declared illegal by the judge.
