Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha Member V Hanumantha Rao urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to organise Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule’s birth (April 11) and death (November 28) anniversaries as official functions every year and earmark funds in the budget accordingly, as was done to Dr B R Ambedkar, who adored Phule.

Hanumantha Rao addressed a letter to the Prime Minister in this regard on Saturday. He said the people of India would love know about the ideals and thoughts of Mahatma Phule along with his contributions to the society, adding that it would make OBCs,

who were over 50 per cent of Indian population, happy and honoured. Hanumantha Rao reminded that Dr Ambedkar respected Phule, renowned social reformer from Maharashtra, as his guru and drew inspiration from him in a great manner.
