Sangareddy: The three-year-old boy who accidently fell into an abandoned bore-well in Medak district died, despite all the efforts of the administration and the police to rescue him, the police said on Sunday. The boy, Rakesh, fell into the bore-well on Saturday at around 9 am while playing near his house at Bommareddigudem village in Pulkal mandal of Medak district. His body was retrieved from the bore-well on Sunday.

“The boy had died this morning and his body was taken out from the open bore-well and handed over to his parents,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Medak sub-division) Raj Ratnam said reporters. Rakesh, the son of daily wagers, slipped at a depth of 30 feet inside the bore-well. The land around the bore-well was dug up to reach the boy, the DSP said. Earth moving machines were used to dig a parallel hole to rescue the boy and oxygen was also pumped into the bore-well.

The rescue operations by revenue department and other district officials hit a roadblock for sometime on Saturday evening when they came across a sheet of rock while digging. Later, the officials continued the rescue work throughout the night, but all their efforts failed to save the boy. The bore-well was left uncovered by a local farmer when he had failed to find any water even after reaching an estimated depth of around 150 feet. Rakesh, who was playing near it on Saturday along with his brother, fell inside the bore-well and got stuck even as his brother and other family members tried to pull him out, but in vain.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on Bommareddigudem village, as Rakesh was taken out of the hole, but in a lifeless condition. It was after almost 24 hours the body was taken out of the hole using eight earth movers working since Saturday morning. The body was immediately taken to Sangareddy Government Hospital. Due to a serious injury on his forehead and asphyxiation, doctors said that the boy had probably died inside the open bore-well long before his body was retreaved.
