Hyderabad: The 8th convocation ceremony of PGDM 2013-15 batch of ICBM-School of Business Excellence was organised at KLN Prasad Auditorium at FAPCCI in Hyderabad on Saturday. Pride was writ large on the faces of 130 graduates as they stepped into the professional world with degrees in hand.
Addressing the graduates, chief guest Prof J Philip, also a former director at IIM- Bangalore shared his success story and said sustained work and determination helped him achieve the Dean’s position at a young age. “There are different sectors, industries, agriculture, business and so on. Every sector is dependent on managers, and you all are the backbone of the nation. There are various programmes being initiated, the key people behind ‘Make in India’ and other programmes are managers. You are now entering into a special class. No matter where you are, there is one thing that will make you stand out. My expression is the old usual one - hard work,” he said.
“It’s an extremely competitive world, MBA is not just in India, but its global, so you should be aware of the outside world too and competent enough to match the global level. Only performance can help you win this competitiveness,” he advised.
He further asked students to value time as nothing defined effectiveness better than tender, loving care of time,” he said. He concluded by defining MBA education as knowing (the knowledge you gain from the books you read), doing (managing, creating, communicating) and being (it’s the ethical part that defines a person’s integrity) which would help the students be good managers.
Dr TV Rao, regarded as ‘the Father of Indian HRD (Human Resource Development)’ also congratulated the graduates at the ceremony.
He was professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad for over 20 years. He highlighted a few points from his research in the past. He urged the students recruited with less pay packages to be proud. “Those of you who are not in the higher salary bracket should be proud that you'll have started as learners, you have been prepared to apply what you have learnt at your B-school. Give yourself an opportunity to learn in the company you’ve been hired. Don’t leave the company until you learn everything, from junior level to higher level, try to learn about various functions, even the HR functions, there is so much to learn and these organisations are platforms to learn,” he said.
Dr TV Rao spoke at length about effectiveness. “There is nothing like a time limit for you to show your effectiveness, this needs a constant search inside. Do not compare yourself with others and say that you lack something. You have education and that's important, apart from that introspection and passion, a goal is all you require,” he said.
