For representational purpose only DECISION REVERSED

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has retracted its decision and will not implement jumbling system in the Intermediate practical examinations this year too.The government was of the view that implementing the jumbling system would victimise students affecting their score which will have an impact competitive examinations like JEE and Eamcet .This decision was taken during a review meeting convened by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Kadiyam Srihari with Principal Secretary, Education, Ranjeev R Acharya and Board of Intermediate Education officials in the Minister’s Chamber at the Secretariat here on Monday.

  • System may have adverse affect on students appearing for competitive exams like JEE and Eamcet
  • It is feared that jumbling system will trigger competition among the junior colleges

Earlier, the government had decided to implement the jumbling system from this academic year only. The Education Minister directed the Board to check the feasibility of its implementation. In this regard, Board also held meeting with the regional inspector officers recently.Kadiyam Srihari said there would be competition between government junior colleges, private colleges, and among private junior colleges. “The students will be victimised. One mark variation will have adverse affect in the competitive examinations like JEE, Eamcet as intermediate marks will be taken into consideration for arriving at ranks,” Srihari said.

He further said the private junior colleges approached the government requesting to keep decision in abeyance. While jumbling system will not implemented in Telangana, the Andhra Pradesh government had already announced that it would implement the new system. The government also directed AP Board of Intermediate Education and colleges to make arrangements to conduct examination scheduled in February.

According to the jumbling system, the students of one college will have to take practical examination in examination centre allotted to them. Presently, the students take examination in their respective colleges and they will continue to do so as the government decided not to implement the new system. In the absences of jumbling system, the colleges especially private and corporate favoured students by awarding cent per cent marks even if they do not perform well in the practical examinations. “There will be jumbling system for the theory examination,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

It may be mentioned here that in the undivided Andhra Pradesh state, Prof. Dayaratnam Committee had proposed the jumbling system for Intermediate practical examinations. The committee felt that if examinations were held in respective college laboratories, there may be high chances of favouritism. It also felt that a student’s practical knowledge should be tested outside and by external examiners.
