Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy exhorted party leaders and workers to strive to bring back the past glory of the Congress by facing Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) united. Addressing party workers at the Congress Foundation Day celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan, Uttam Kumar said the ruling party was trying to destroy the ‘nation on the basis of religion’.

The Congress flag was hoisted in all Assembly constituencies and municipal divisions of Old City of Hyderabad as part of the celebrations. Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (Minorities Department) chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail hoisted the flag at the historic Charminar. Other senior leaders including GHCC General Secretary Syed Nizamuddin, Mohammed Moosa Khasim Qhudoos Ali, Kazam Hussain Khan, Mirza Askar Ali Baig, Mohammed Zaker and Barkath Ali were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Sohail said the Congress was strengthening its base in the entire Old City of Hyderabad. He said that the Congress would contest from all wards in the forthcoming GHMC elections. He exhorted party workers to launch mass contact programmes in their respective areas. He said only the Congress could fight against the communal forces and victory of Congress was essential for the protection of secularism in the country.

Abdullah Sohail said the Old City of Hyderabad needed to be liberated from the communal clutches of the MIM and the BJP. He said that the MIM and BJP had been strengthening each other by pursuing communal politics. They had only exploited the religious sentiments of different communities for political gains. “Asaduddin Owaisi’s speech remains incomplete without making a mention of Prime Minister Narender Modi, but BJP leader Kishan Reddy targets Owaisi brothers in his statements. They are indulging in cross-publicity.

They never spoke about the problems being faced by the common man in Hyderabad. But now the Congress will put an end to this communal politics,” he said. Syed Nizamuddin, in his speech, asked the Congress workers to enlighten the people on the failures of the MIM, the TRS government in the State and the BJP government at the Centre. He advised the youth to join the Congress to stay away from the politics of radicalisation, polarisation and intolerance. He said the Congress would bring the much needed change in the Old City of Hyderabad.
