Hyderabad: The differences among the Congress leaders over leading the GHMC campaign in Ranga Reddy district surfaced on Monday. The followers of former Minister Danam Nagender and Rangareddy District Congress Committee president K Mallesh Goud fought a pitched battle at party’s 131st foundation day celebrations at Uppal. Nagender was also attacked with eggs and tomatoes in the melee.

Nagender, who led a bike rally towards Uppal from Gandhi Bhavan after foundation day celebrations, encountered opposition when he attempted to hoist the party flag at Auto Stand at Srikrishna Theatre in Uppal. Before his arrival at Uppal, RR DCC president had already hoisted the flag. Nagender, who heads Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC), tried to hoist the flag once again inviting the ire of local leadership.

The followers of Mallesh Goud started raising slogans against Nagender and scuffles ensued between the warring groups. The Congress activists from RR district were sore that Nagender was meddling in the district politics without confining himself to organising the party in Hyderabad. The warring groups fought a pitched battle and Nagender was attacked with eggs.

After returning to Banjara Hills during the afternoon, Nagender refuted that he was attacked. He described bedlam as a scuffle between some local leaders at Uppal. “The scuffle was between local leaders. In fact, Sudheer and me tried to pacify the infuriated mob,” he clarified.
