Warangal: Senior Congress leader and former chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was deliberately neglecting Warangal district. Addressing a press conference at the DCC Bhavan here on Saturday, he said that though KCR had visited the district five times, there was no move to develop the region.

“KCR has made tall promises during his visits to Warangal but nothing has changed at the ground level. Be it the 800 MW power plant at Bhupalpalli or early completion of Devadula project, the list goes on…,” Reddy said, pointing out the Chief Minister’s appeal to the people to give mandate to the TRS in 2014 elections for the development of Telangana.

Demanding a Metro Rail project in Warangal and the construction of outer ring road, the former chief whip leader sought the Chief Minister’s initiative to complete the underground drainage system and houses to the poor in the city. He also demanded the State government to carve out Bhupalpalli into a new district and name if after Prof K Jayashankar.

Ramana Reddy demanded the State government to announce elections for all the Municipal Corporations in the State on a common date. Referring to the recent suspicious deaths of two tribal girls at Khaderpetgutta village in Chennaraopet mandal in the district, he demanded the government to order a detailed probe into the incident. He accused the ruling party of depriving the benefits of welfare schemes of the State to the poor and the downtrodden.

“There was a need to ensure benefits of welfare schemes to reach out to all sections of the people irrespective of their political affiliation,” Reddy said, accusing the ruling party of misusing the power to benefit its party cadres only.

The government should come out with a whitepaper on development of Warangal district before the Chief Minister embarks on a two-day tour to Warangal in a couple days, Reddy demanded.

DCCB Chairman Janga Raghava Reddy, City Congress president Tadisetty Vidyasagar, Binny Laxman, SC Cell district president Namindla Srinivas, Youth Congress president G Ramakanth Reddy and Sita Shyam were among others who were present.
