Justice P V Sanjay Kumar of the High Court at Hyderabad on Tuesday declared that it was not open for the police to interfere with the trade of “china manja” without an instrument of law authorising them to do so.

The petitioners Bajaj Patan Mahal and others challenged the action of the Police in interfering with the business of the petitioners in storing and selling "china manja" without furnishing any administrative order.

The government responded that it was not taking any steps to seize the "china manja." The government also stated that there might be some complaints by the Forest Department to the government that the said manja is causing injuries to birds.

Counsel K Ashok Reddy pointed out that from the stance of the government it was clear that there was not even an administrative order justifying the alleged seizure.
