SCB told to follow either Cantt Act or LA Act

Justice C Kodandaram of the High Court at Hyderabad directed the Secunderabad Cantonment Board to follow the procedure either under the Cantonment Act or the relevant Land Acquisition Act before seeking to evict slum dwellers from Indira Nagar.

The judge allowed a writ petition filed by the slum dwellers. The petitioners complained that the authorities threatened to summarily evict them from houses occupied by them for over three and a half decades.

The petitioners contended that summary eviction without following the provisions of law would be in violation of the Constitutional guarantees.
