Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of elections

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner and Election Authority B Janardhan Reddy on Monday briefed the representatives of various political parties on the Dos & Don’ts of the GHMC elections which are scheduled to be held on February 2. Reddy said the contesting candidates’ expenditure had been fixed at Rs 5 lakhs.

He said 28 senior IAS officers and 24 observers had been appointed to monitor the expenditure by candidates and political parties. Video surveillance, accounting, flying squads, media monitoring and other teams would also be deployed to ensure that expenditure remains within the defined limit.

He advised the candidates to open separate bank accounts and the details of the same should be furnished in the nomination form. He also clarified that the contesting candidates can use can use bullet proof vehicles for security reasons for which they have to bear the fuel charges. He also asked political parties to create awareness among the people to increase the polling percentage.

For the ensuing GHMC elections, one Returning Officer and an Assistant RO have been appointed for each of the 150 wards. He said around 12,000 electronic voting machines were being organised. All basic minimum facilities have been provided at the polling stations and for the first time, the GHMC has arranged a website to the voters to locate their polling stations.

The Election Authority said elaborate arrangements had been made to curb liquor and as well as flow of money. A separate control room has been established at the GHMC head office and the citizens can express their grievances to the control room about election-related issues on the following telephone numbers 040-23261330, 23222018, 23221978.

As on today, the GHMC had removed more than 45,000 unauthorized flexes, banners, cutouts etc., said the Election Authority.Representatives of various political parties, Additional Commissioners Surendra Mohan, Shiva Kumar Naidu, Niranjan Shah and Chief Examiner of Accounts attended the meeting.
