Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh terms KCR an autocrat, flays him for misusing official machinery for Chandi Yagam

Hyderabad: AICC general secretary and party in-charge for Telangana State Digvijay Singh on Tuesday criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for concentrating on his “farming and business” while neglecting the development of the State.

As part of the GHMC elections campaign, Digvijay Singh addressed election meetings in several Assembly constituencies on Tuesday. Addressing a meeting at Ram Leela grounds at Chintalbasti under Khairatabad constituency, the Congress leader appealed to the voters to reject KCR as the latter proved himself an autocrat.

He demanded that the Chief Minister give an account of Rs 7.5 crore he had spend on performing Chandi Yagam. The entire official machinery was busy serving the interests of KCR instead of ensuring the welfare of the State, he said. Questioning the claims by KCR that Telangana State had become a reality because of his efforts, Digvijay Singh ridiculed the claim.

He pointed out that it was only because of Congress that KCR today was able to occupy the chair of the Chief Ministers of newly-formed State. “I have never seen a politician like him who changed his statement within hours after meeting AICC President Sonia Gandhi in Delhi,” he said.

Taking a dig at MIM, the Congress leader asked the Owaisi family how it had got a hospital, medical college and bank without Congress party’s support. “In Islam collecting interest on loan is prohibited. But the bank being managed by the MIM is collecting interest on the loans being advanced,” he pointed out.

He said the MIM had joined hands with the BJP during the Bihar elections for polarising voters. The MIM had tacit understanding with the BJP. The BJP had tried to repeat the Maharashtra experiment in Bihar by encouraging the MIM to field its candidate.

He accused the Central government of failing to control rising prices. He said the Centre by imposing additional excise duty on petroleum products had deprived the common people of benefits of falling crude oil prices, he said.

AICC secretary, R C Khuntia, TPCC president, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, TPCC working president, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MP V Hanumantha Rao, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender also spoke.
