1,061 tanks to be restored

As the first phase  of Mission Kakatiya yielded good results in the district, the district authorities geared up to take up restoration works of 1,061 tanks under the second phase. According to the officials sources, it was proposed to take up restoration of 1,061 tanks in the district under second phase of Mission Kakatiya and decided to complete the works by the end of June. 

Nalgonda: As the first phase of Mission Kakatiya yielded good results in the district, the district authorities geared up to take up restoration works of 1,061 tanks under the second phase. According to the officials sources, it was proposed to take up restoration of 1,061 tanks in the district under second phase of Mission Kakatiya and decided to complete the works by the end of June.

The district authorities have submitted estimations for 982 tanks to the State government. In turn, the government has already accorded administrative sanction to the works of 300 tanks. The tender process of works of these tanks would begin from January 29. It was decided to take 20 percent of total 4,749 tanks for the restoration under second phase of Mission Kakatiya.

The division-wise figures of proposed tanks for restoration are - 295 in Nalgonda division, 386 in Bhongir, 168 in Suryapet and 212 tanks in Devarakonda. The estimated cost of restoration works of these tanks is Rs 377.36 crores. In Mission Kakatiya first phase, 952 tanks have been taken up for restoration in the district and 460 tanks were fully restored till date.

The works of the remaining tanks were completed by 70-80 percent and the district authorities were taking special measures to complete them by March, 2016. Speaking to The Hans India, Superintendent of Engineer (Irrigation) D Dharma informed that Nalgonda district stood in the first place in the State in quantity of removed silt by recording 1.25 cubic meter of silt removal from 952 tanks.

Stating that de-silting works at the tanks were halted for some time due to rains, he said the works were resumed now and would be completed by March. Hundreds of tanks in Nalgonda district were brimmed with water in the monsoon season by receiving good quantity of rain water due to restoration.

The tanks of Theegala Cheruvu at Jajireddygudem village and tanks at Ramachandrapuram, Venkatapuram, Cheripally, Chinthakuntla, Doniyala, Kollumunthalapadu, Gottimukkala, Vallabahpuram and Dosapadu villages became as model for Mission Kakatiya by receiving highest level of water.

DIP to be submitted to govt on January 29, Nalgonda district will also become the first district in the State in submitting District Irrigation Plan (DIP) to the government, which the district authorities will submit on January 29. Disclosing this to The Hans India, Superintendent of Engineer (Irrigation) D Dharma said that Nalgonda was one of three districts that were selected for Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).

Under the programme, check dams would be constructed and measures would be taken to improve the ground water levels. Reminding that the district authorities have prepared DIP by gathering MPs and MLAs opinions, he said that the DIP would be submitted to the government on Friday. The State government would send it to the Centre in two or three days, he added.
