Hyderabad: The Telangana government, which has been claiming that it would install one lakh closed circuit TV (CCTV) cameras in GHMC limits for the purpose of safety of people, has only called for tenders and not yet fixed any such cameras.

According to information obtained by RTI activist M Srinivas, the government has decided to install 10,000 CCTV cameras and has released Rs 58 crore for the purpose. Presently, the tenders have been called for and hence no camera has yet been fixed.

Interestingly, the Ministers and the TRS leaders during their campaign for the GHMC elections have been claiming that the government is fixing one lakh CCTV cameras for the safety of the public. Even Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, at a press conference on Thursday, reiterated the same. However, the information given by RTI pegs the number at only 10,000 and that the project is still at the tender stage.
