Medaram: The Excise department has earned revenue of Rs 3 crore as on Wednesday from liquor sales at Medaram Jatara since last Saturday. The Excise Officer On Special Duty (OSD) P Srinivasa Rao informed The Hans India that the department had issued 22 event permit shops for Medaram Jatara and earned revenue of Rs 13.86 lakh as fees.

The department expects to earn revenue of over Rs 10 crore till February 20 and in the first two days there was a sale of Rs 1.95 crore. The department has set up 11 check posts, deployed eight mobile teams and drafted 500 personnel for Jatara duties. Mahabubabad Excise Task Force CI MPR Chandrasekhar said the main objective of the department was to prevent sale of illicit liquor and spurious toddy.

The event permits were issued to discourage people from consuming gudumba. Besides checking the sale of illegal liquor, availability of Indian Made Foreign Liqour (IMFL) was ensured in sufficient quantity. The volume of liquor sales indicates the departments’ success in controlling illicit liquor, added another inspector Indra Prasad.
