Banswada: The Telangana Government was giving encouragement to the dairy sector and increased the price of milk by Rs 4 on each litre of milk from November, 2014 said the State Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Pochram Srinivs Reddy here on Saturday.

Distributing milk cans to the dairy farmers at Satyanarayanapuram of Varni mandal in the district, who were supplying milk of the government subsidiary Vijaya Dairy, the Minister said that after formation of Telangana State, the dairy industry was developing speedily in the State and the profits of Vijaya dairy reached Rs 75 crore. The State government would release the farmer’s dues within one week, Srinivas Reddy added.

He said that the government distributed cattle to 38,028 farmers with the cost of Rs 15.20 crore in the Nizamabad district, each and every farmer should grow his cattle’s fodder and along with agricultural crops, the minister added.

Pocharam lauded the services of Satyanarayanapuram farmers of Varni mandal in the district and said that they were earning Rs 60 lakh per month, Rs 7.20 crore per year and it was equal to cultivating two crops on 2000 acres of land , the Minister added.

The State Dairy Development Corporation Managing Director Nirmala said that after formation of the Telangana State, the dairy industry was developing in the state speedily and the milk procurement increased from 80, 000 litres to Rs 6 lakh liters, she added. The MD said that Nizamabad district was playing a key role in daily industry and collecting Rs 75,000 liters per day in the district.

IN her speech, District Collector Yogita Rana said that dairy industry was useful to face drought conditions in Nizamabad district. She said that steps were taken to grow grass under the MGNREGS works in the district to encourage dairy industry. Cattle sheds were sanctioned through NREGS funds to each farmer who have more than 10 cattle, she added.

Agriculture Joint Director Narasimha, Horticulture DD Sunanda, DPO Krishna Murthy, Animal husbandry AD Bharat, District Dairy Officer Nageshwar Rao and dairy farmers participated in the program.
