TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy has demanded the usage of paper audit trail machine or Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in GWMC polls.
Warangal: TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy has demanded the usage of paper audit trail machine or Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in GWMC polls.
Speaking to press persons in Hanamkonda on Wednesday, he expressed apprehension over possible tampering of EVMs in the elections by the ruling party. To ensure transparency in the poll process, EVMs equipped with VVPAT should be used, he felt.
The system was being experimentally used in 35 centres in the Khammam Municipal elections. The same should be employed in GWMC polls. It would help the voter to ensure that the vote was cast to the candidate of their choice. Several complaints were made to Election Commission of India and State Election Commission about tampering of EVMs in the previous elections. But there was no concurrent action in that connection.
He accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of failing to fulfill his election promises. The government, which gave house tax exemption to citizens in GHMC, was not doing the same in GWMC. Due to the negligence of TRS and BJP governments, Warangal failed to get selected for Smart City project, he added.
