The Union Ministry of Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia on Friday asked the State government to bring in SEZ (Special Economic Zone) Act on its own to pave way for robust growth in exports from the state. Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia on Friday asked the State government to bring in SEZ (Special Economic Zone) Act on its own to pave way for robust growth in exports from the state. The official attended a high-level meeting conducted by the Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma at Secretariat. She said that Telangana has great potential for export of pharmaceuticals, cotton, mango, dry chillies, frozen meat, granites and turmeric, among others.

The Commerce Secretary emphasised the need for greater focus on core competent areas of the State so that it could become a leader in exports in those sectors. Private investment should be encouraged wherever possible, she said.

“The Centre is ready to work with the State government to create a conducive atmosphere for the industry and exporters to ensure that the country achieves its targets in exports,” she said. The Chief Secretary explained her salient features of the new industrial policy of the State government. State Principal Secretary to Industries and Commerce, Arvind Kumar took certain State specific issues to the notice of the Commerce Secretary and requested here to expedite those matters.
