Hyderabad: Initiating debate on motion of thanks to Governor’s address in the Assembly during budget session, Government Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar on Saturday said the historic accord with Maharashtra government for irrigation projects would transform the State into a “green Telangana.” “The historic deal will give a boost to agriculture sector as it paves way for completing five projects,” he claimed.

The redesigning of the projects was meant to bring more acreage under irrigation, Eshwar said. He accused the Congress members of having “filled their pockets” in the Pranahita-Chevella project. The Congress had now resorted to meaningless criticism to malign the ruling party, he charged.

While the previous government had miserably failed to complete the projects, the TRS government had taken a historic decision to complete them, he said. The Telangana- Maharashtra deal would help irrigate over 58,000 acres in Adilabad district alone, he said. Unlike the previous regime known for corruption, the TRS government was redesigning the projects only to increase the area under irrigation. The Tummidihatti project was redesigned to irrigate 1.50 lakh acres additionally, the TRS leader said.

Referring to the recent municipal corporation elections, Eshwar said the polls proved that people had extended their total support to the government by electing the TRS members. “The Opposition parties should cooperate with the government to take forward the welfare schemes and development works,” he appealed. There would be no use in opposing government programmes. The government was committed to make Hyderabad a global city by providing infrastructure and facilities, he added.
