Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya Friday said the Centre had taken various measures to make Provident Fund transactions more transparent. Dattatreya held a meeting with the officials of EPFO at Barkatpura office here and reviewed its functioning. As part of transparency drive, a universal account number had been developed by Shram Suvidha portal for the benefit of the workers, he said.

Speaking to media after the meeting, the Union Minister said more measures would be taken for the welfare of workers in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh. As per the EPFO records, there were 29,269 organisations in Telangana State and 22,706 in Andhra Pradesh. Telangana State has over 36 lakh PF contributors and AP 13 lakh.

Giving details of measures being taken for the welfare of the workers, he said for the first time under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the bonus ceiling had been increased and Rs 1,000 made as minimum pension. The Union Minister said if the State government provided land, the Centre would construct model housing colonies in Nizamabad, Warangal and Siddipet. The EPFO offices would be opened at Uppal, LB Nagar, Rajahmundry and Kurnool.
