Karimnagar: District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad directed the officials to take measures to provide drinking water to the people. She advised them to hire private tankers to overcome the water crisis and meet the needs of large number of people Participating in a programme held at Venkatraopalli village of Ramadugu mandal on Tuesday in connection with the World Water Day celebrations, she said that water bodies have dried up following the continuous dry spell and there was severe scarcity for drinking water in the rural areas.

The District Collector said that hiring private tankers and digging bore wells were the only option left for the administration to overcome the problem and advised the officials to engage bore wells of the farmers who did not cultivate crops due to the prolonged dry spell. She directed them to repair the existing bore wells.

Under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, there was a facility to construct four to five water tubs in each village to quench the thrust of the cattle. Advising the people not to waste water, the Collector emphasised the need to construct water pits in every house and raise trees to protect the environment so that there was a possibility to get rains in the monsoon season regularly.
