Hyderabad: Communist Party of India (CPI) Telangana State Council has demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao raise the number of recognised drought hit mandals from existing 231 to 434. Demanding the same, CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, on Friday, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

In his letter, Chada demanded that the State government announce ex-gratia of Rs 15,000 per each acre for paddy crop. He also demanded that the government provide the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) works to the labourers and pay Rs 300 each to them besides providing water and medicine.

The other demands of the CPI include, supplying drinking water to all villages through tankers, extending pensions to all the eligible aged people who crossed 60 years, enhancing rice from six kg to 10 kg each through public distribution system, setting up mid-day meal centers in every village, paying Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the people who died due to sunstroke, allotting Rs 200 crore to each district and take up drought relief works on war footing. The CPI also demanded the government to waive off crop loans of farmers.
