Speaking to the reporters in Hyderabad, Bandaru Dattatreya said that Central government is making efforts to make reforms in labour laws and move forward towards a universal wage. He further said as the issue is not garnering co-operation from the Opposition in the Parliament, they are planning to go ahead with an executive order for the welfare of the workers.

The Minister said that the government decided to change the rule 25 of the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Central Rules where every contract worker will be ensured a minimum wage of Rs 10,000 per month. Keeping in view of Consumer Price Index and variation DA, the Supreme Court had given a direction to increase the minimum wage, said Dattatreya adding that the wage will first increased to Rs 10,000 following which they would go for the universal minimum wage.

The Minister also asked the contractors to register with the Labour Ministry to benefit from the minimum wage rule and said that the sanitation workers in Telangana and AP would benefit as they earn Rs 8,500 per month apart from the crores of workers.
