Hyderabad: KG to PG the flagship programme of the Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will start rolling with 250 residential schools from the next academic year.

KCR, who reviewed the scheme on Wednesday, told Education Minister Kadiam Srihari to construct schools on government lands. He told the district collectors that there was no norm that schools should be established at the mandal level.

250 residential schools from next academic year

Asking them to think on practical lines, he said schools should be constructed where there is population and on government lands. The CM asked the officials to set up schools where the SC, ST population was more particularly in Girjana thandas and backward areas. This would help bringing education to the doorstep of these sections an would help in uplifting them, he said.

KCR also asked the officials to give priority to 32 constituencies where are there no residential schools. Talking to The Hans India Srihari said he would hold a meeting with the district collectors in couple of days to finalise places where the new schools can be located.

With success of social welfare schools across the state, the government has decided to have new residential schools on the lines of social welfare residential schools. According to Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, secretary, RS Praveen Kumar all new residential schools would be on the lines of Social welfare residential schools.

Each residential school would come up in five to 10 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. It may be mentioned that the government had sanctioned 130 residential schools for SCs, 50 for STs and 70 for minorities. Accordingly it has asked the Telangana State Public Service Commission to take up recruitment process in the schools.
