Justice P V Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday stayed registration of a case against directors of Jagati Publications on a defamation complaint lodged by TDP MLA Dhulipala Narendra.

The Telugu Desam MLA lodged a complaint against the directors of the publication house for certain news reports in Sakshi media for alleged involvement of his family members.

K Ramachandra Murthy and four others moved a petition before the High Court challenging the action of the police and seeking to declare the action of the police as illegal.

It is contended that the police station is not an appropriate forum under law to initiate defamation proceedings and it is magistrate court which is competent to entertain the defamation case.
