Hyderabad: A protest meeting of the auto drivers against Road Transport Authority (RTA) and the traffic police will be held at Press Club, Basheerbagh on May 14, at 2 PM.

The Telangana Auto Drivers’ Joint Action Committee (TADJAC) has already given an indefinite auto bandh call from May 16 demanding immediate arrest of Ola and Uber managements for their unfair pricing, withdrawal of the ‘auto permit’ cancellation order and replacing the e-challan system with the ‘spot challan’ one.

TADJAC leaders Mohd Amanullah Khan, K Lakshminarasaiah, M A Saleem and Mirza Rafath Baig, questioned the State government whether Ola and Uber were above the law? “Why is action not being taken against the managements of Ola and Uber for their illegal fares even though the government is empowered to fix the tariff under Section 67 of Motor Vehicles Act? Their inaction only shows that they are indirectly promoting Uber and Ola,” alleged the TADJAC leaders.

They further said that the decision of the RTA officials and traffic police to cancel auto permits citing irregularities by the auto drivers was not only prejudiced but also provocative.

“There is a simmering discontent spreading among all the auto drivers in the twin cities. Therefore, we have no other option but to launch a ‘do or die’ agitation from May 16. We request all the auto drivers to attend the protest meeting in large numbers and make it a huge success,” they added.
