Sangareddy: The farmers of Zaheerabad constituency, who are losing their lands as part of the land acquisition process for National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), have demanded that the government repeal GO 123 and implement the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 instead. They have threatened that they would hold a protest at the Chief Minister’s house soon if their demands were not met immediately.

Farmers from Jharasangam and Nyalkal mandals of Zaheerabad constituency, under the banner 'NIMZ Bhoo Nirvasithula Porata Committee' protested at the District Collectorate here on Monday demanding that the government pay four times the actual market rate per acre as compensation, as stipulated in the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, as they felt their lands were valued between Rs 15 and Rs 35 lakh.

They also demanded that the government should not acquire the highly fertile lands where crops like ginger, green chillies, vegetables and fruits were being cultivated, a job in the NIMZ to a member of the family which would be affected by displacement and Rs 2,000 per month up to 20 years as pension for farmers, farm labourers and tenant farmers who would be affected by the setting up of the NIMZ.

NIMZ is a Central government project aimed at creating investment and manufacturing zones across the country in order to boost manufacturing and production and to create an investment-friendly environment in the country. The project was initiated by the then UPA II government.

In united Andhra Pradesh, Zaheerabad was selected as the location for the setting up of the NIMZ across 12,000 acres of land.The land acquisition process started after the formation of Telangana and 3000 acres of land is being acquired in Jharasangam and Nyalkal mandals in the first phase. Alienation of lands is being done presently and not many farmers are happy about it.
