Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday unfurled the National flag hoisted on a 291-ft tall mast, perceived to be the tallest flagpost in the country so far, at Sanjivaiah Park on the occasion of State's second Formation Day.

  • The mast is 291-ft high and the flag can be seen from a radius of about 20 km

The government had selected the park as the place to hoist the flag as it would overlook the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of the city, and can be viewed from a radius of about 20 km. The government has spent nearly Rs 3 crore on the project. The steel pipes used to fabricate the country's tallest flagpost were specially ordered from Kolkata.

Due to the huge size of the flag, it was unfurled with the help of a motorised mechanism. The flag weighs over 65 kilos. The unfurling of the flag was part of the elaborate celebrations undertaken by the State government on the occasion of the State Formation Day. The Chief Minister said the flag would instill nationalism among the citizens and would be a symbol of pride.

The record height of flagpost resembles the aim of Telangana to soar high. As soon as the flag was hoisted, people gathered to click pictures and selfies. From policemen to common citizens, everyone wanted to capture the proud amoment.
