Hyderabad: Mission Bhagiratha launched by the State government to provide safe drinking water to every household got a fund worth Rs 4,000 crore from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

At a high-level meeting conducted by State Principal Secretary to Panchayat Raj and Rural Development SP Singh, the bank officials agreed to provide Rs 2,200-crore loan for the implementation of the programme in 2016-17. Another Rs 1,976-crore loan sanctioned under second installment in the previous year would also be released immediately, NABARD General Manager Satya Prasad said.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the ongoing works taken up at Gajwel, Narsapur, Sangareddy and Narayankhed Assembly segments in Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s native district Medak. The bank came forward to provide financial assistance to intra-village works in the areas. State Finance Secretary Naveen Mittal and other officials were present in the meeting.
