Warangal: The city police have intensified their efforts to tackle the menace of rowdy-sheeters under Warangal police Commissionerate limits.

To begin with, the police have planned to conduct extensive counselling sessions to warn rowdy-sheeters listed under police stations. Recently the rowdy-sheeters have reportedly stepped up their illegal activities in the city with the support of some people's representatives and some ‘media’ persons as well.

It was said that the Police Commissioner has received several complaints about threatening, land encroachments and other illegal activities by rowdy-sheeters. Following which the Commissioner, G Sudheer Babu, directed the ACPs and station house officers (inspectors) to initiate measures to address the issue.

Responding to the Commissioners’ directions, Hanamkonda ACP P Shoban Kumar and inspector A Sampath Rao have summoned about 33 rowdy-sheeters to Hanamkonda police station on Saturday and conducted the counselling session.

They were told not to involve in settling civil disputes, land encroachments and the issues related to liquor shops. They were warned that they would be expelled from the city if they if they failed to mend their ways and continue their illegal activities.

The rowdy-sheeters have been asked to visit the police once in a week. As per the police records, there are nearly 400 rowdy-sheeters in the city. It was being contemplated to remove the names of the persons from the list of rowdy-sheeters, if they were not found involved in illegal activities for the past 10 years, Shoban Kumar said.

In view public safety, the police continue to keep a constant watch on the movements of rowdy-sheeters, he added.
