Nalgonda: Delay in issuing orders to introduce midday meal scheme in the Government Junior Colleges from this academic year has caused worry among the parents and lecturers. The students are sceptical about implementation of the scheme because no orders came from the higher-ups though classes commenced a month ago.

The government’s efforts last year in supplying free textbooks to students helped increase the strength in Government Junior Colleges. It helped the colleges secure good results too in public examinations.

Following this, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the Ministers promised to introduce midday meal scheme in the State educational institutions to support poor rural students from rural areas.

The government’s announcement led more students enrolling themselves in 30 Government Colleges in the district. Even though the admission process in Government Colleges has started from June 1, the government has not issued any orders on the implementation of mid-day meals till date.

On the other hand, the delay in taking a decision on the midday meal scheme is creating trouble for the lecturers as they assured the students that the government would introduce the scheme, besides free education and free textbooks.
